Individualism, Islamism and Democracy: A Sociological Reading of the Transformations in the Arab World

Volume 6|Issue 24| Spring 2018 |Reports

Abstract

This report presents a summary of the subjects, issues, and problematics within research interventions around «the sociology of transformations in the Arab World.» These were contributed at a seminar held on March 21, 2018 at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) in Beirut. The seminar addressed the rise of flexible individualism through a review of the feminist movement and related texts. It considered the transformations in the Islamist movement through a review of trends for renewal in magazines and publishing houses and examined the future of democracy in the Arab world by focusing on difficulties inherent in observing future trends.
