The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) has published the fifth issue of its quarterly peer-reviewed journal Omran, a journal dedicated to the social sciences and humanities. This edition addresses "Economic Inequity and Development: Lessons from Global Experiences and Implications for the Arab World". The issue is comprised of the following studies: "Economic Inequity and Development" (Rovi Kanbur); "Economic Freedom and Social Equity in the Theory of Justice" (Murad Dayyani); "Women's Empowerment and Economic Development" (Esther Dutlo); "Justice in the Eyes of Prisoners" (Mohsin Bouazizi); "Sectarianism in the Syrian Revolution" (Nerouz Satik); "Selective Justice and Liberalized Authoritarianism in Morocco" (Abd al-Hayy Mouadhen); and "State Fatigue and Politics of Social Fragmentation in Jordan" (Abd al-Azeez Khazala). In the book review section, Shams Eddin al Kilani review of Wajih Kawtharani's research on the Islamic political experience are included, as are the following: Huda Hawa on Muhaya Zeituni's “Trading in Education in the Arab World”, Abbad Yahya on Oren Yiftachel's Ethnocracy: Land and Identity Politics in Israel/Palestine, Radwan Batu on Mohammad Jadoor's “The Makhzan Institution in the History of Morocco”, Tanya Hashem on Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson. Also included are a number of short Arabic and foreign book reviews written by Ziad Mona. In the report section, Sayyar al Jameel covers a seminar held in Paris on the Centennial of the first Arab Conference held in Paris in 1913. The paintings included in the issue are the works of the late Syrian artist Ahmad Durrag Sibai.
