The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies have published the 53rd issue (Summer 2025) of the quarterly peer-reviewed journal Omran, dedicated to the social sciences. This issue contains the following studies: “Social Media and Surveillance: An Anthropological Study of Moroccan Digital Lives” by Mahjouba Kaoukaou; “Digital Activism Within the Coptic Community in North America: New Transnational Opportunities or Emerging Threats?” by Lilian Estafanous; “Toward a Pharmaceutical Anthropology in Morocco: The Biography of Aureomycin from Physical Production to Cultural Reinterpretation” by Farouk Tahri; and “Sudan’s War of Words and Bullets: A Digital Ethnographic Analysis of the 15 April War Discourse” by Hawa Alzain and Elshifa Elamin.

The issue also includes a report by Salaheldean Elegla titled “The Impact of the Israeli War on the Palestinian Economy in the Gaza Strip: The Challenges of Economic Recovery”. Two book reviews are featured: Rachid Jarmouni’s review of Mecca in Morocco: Articulations of Muslim Pilgrimage in Moroccan Everyday Life by Kholoud Al-Ajarma; and Mujahid Eldouma’s review of Fairouz and the Arab Diaspora: Music and Identity in the UK and Qatar by Dima Issa. The issue ends with five previews of recent publications, prepared by the editorial board.
