Women Social Workers Working in Lebanon's Syrian Refugee Context: Challenges and Coping Mechanisms in a Multilayered Crisis

Lebanon has experienced a multi-layered crisis that has repercussions on the psychosocial well-being of the population, which has implications for social work. What challenges do women social workers face when acting with Syrian refugees? How do they deal with these challenges in the field? The quantitative method used for this study consisted of a questionnaire to assess social workers’ challenges along with the coping mechanisms they pursued to adapt to such situations. The research goes on to suggest a practical organizational coping mechanism that could lead social workers to a better adaptation, consistent with the Lebanese context, and an updated curriculum for the academia. Moreover, it sends an urgent call for the Ministry of Social Affairs and relevant bodies to develop a workable social policy.
